The human body is a gift and as with all gifts no matter how elaborate or simple the wrapping there is a driving force or impulse to tear it open and see what the paper is hiding. The human flesh acts like wrapping paper, a shell that masks the secrets and inner workings of a breathing, bipedal, organism. Apart from those in the medical profession our daily exposure to the human body is usually skin-deep; behind the curtain lurks a world, parts of which are still shrouded in mystery. Since the implementation of electromagnetic short waves by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the human body can be studied without surgical practices. The result of this technology produces an image on film, that image is then studied, with the intent of spotting abnormalities. The purpose of the film is to document an interpretation of a world that remains hidden behind the patient’s epidermis. These interpretations are exactly what their name implies; therefore the final result appears in black and white leaving much to the imagination!
This collection is a culmination of both esthetic interests in radiology imagery and in an interest in a concept echoing object permanence. In human development there is a stage known as object permanence; an example may include the introduction of a ball. Soon after that same ball is covered with a cloth, despite the fact that the ball has been cloaked it is assumed that it still remains under the cloth. We are raised in a society of assumptions and it happens to be the cornerstone of practical functioning. Similarly, through conditioning it is implied that a tennis ball looks a curtain way without even seeing one present; the same can be said about aspects of the human body as it pertains to anatomical reference. The body is assumed to look a curtain way in spite of the barrier our skin creates; however in order to truly know with confidence what something looks like it would need to be investigated despite identical studies made on various occasions. This imagery is not an interpretation of what is, rather what could be!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
